Manglik Dosha
Manglik Dosha means the planet Mars (Mangal) is posited in 1st, 2nd, 12th, 4th, 7th and 8th house in a horoscope from lagna, Moon (Chandra). The most negative of the understanding is that the spouse of the person with Mangal Dosha will whether die or suffer from bad health. The overall effect of manglik dosa will remain till the subject crosses 28th year of his life. After that, its effect gets minimized, but not removed. Also, there are many cases where there is a termination of manglik dosa. In such cases, the matching of horoscopes for marriage purposes should be with the same kind of horoscope; i.e. manglik with manglik; non-manglik with non-manglik; and manglik getting cancellation with manglik.
Unfortunately so much importance is given to it that many marriages are delayed in search of a suitable manglik match. It causes delicate mental tensions and nervousness to the parents (especially the girl parents). The considerate of Mangal (Mars) presents us with an explanation. Mars is a planet of energy. It is the driving planet. It drives both ambition and passion. In its excessive ambition and passion, it can be extremely destructive. Mars is considered the “Commander in Chief of Army” in Vedic Astrology. It is full of energy and is ever ready to command. Those under its domain are protected provided they follow its command. In other words, Mars in its full power can give inherent need to control others. It steps on the individual freedom and can force life partners to follow in its footsteps. Passion, when out of control breeds aggravation. Passion covered up is explosive. Passion, when disciplined, becomes ambition. Ambition, when undisciplined, gives feelings of failure and depression or anger. Disciplined ambition, through consistent work, is success.
A powerful Mars (Mangal), continue to strain irritation and rage, and continue to try and control others rather than controlling themselves. It is either they succeed or they might wreck havoc on others. They become extra bloodthirsty and are an easy prey to all kinds of complexes. They keep on comparing themselves to others and in wake of those, found themselves wanting. This causes an inferiority complex. No egoistic person wants to feel inferior. Therefore, over whom they have some kind of control, they exert their superiority. Such people could be their subordinates at work, children at home or spouse. In wake of Mangal Dosha, problems are enhanced in the area of relationships including marriage. The mismatch of martian energy can cause huge ego clashes between husband-wife and in other relationships. It can cause major damage to the psyche of the non-manglik partner. His or her independence of thought and action are put at stake. It becomes important that both the partners have balance of Martian energy. To have Mars in the same position as one's partner, helps remove Mangal Dosha. The Vedic Astrology helps avoid grievous marriages and leads people to lead a spiritually, mentally and physically fulfilled married life.
A person suffering with Kuja Dosa is open to physical abuse from the partner. However, the dosha is neutralized by the conjunction of Mars with Jupiter or Mars with the Moon; or by the presence of Jupiter or Venus in the ascendant. The position of Venus and Mars is very important in judging marital relations. Mars whose element is fire rules marriage. Where it is badly situated or associated in the horoscope of a male or female, it follows that the fire gets extinguished soon. Such unfavorable situation goes under the name of Kuja Dosha.
It must be noted that in determining marriage adaptability between two parties, there are several elements of much more importance than Kuja Dosha. And the evil influence accruing from the bad position of Mars is only one of the several elements. It is ill-fated that throughout South India especially in the Tamil areas, much is made of the so-called Kuja Dosham and this concern has been the means of destroying the happiness of many families by preventing marriages otherwise very eligible and anxiously wished for. Only in the Kerala Sastra that mention is made of Kuja Dosha. The verse runs thus: “Dhana vyayecha pathale jamitre chashtame kuja; Strinam bharthru vinasamcha bharthunam strivinasanam.” This means: - "If Mars is in the 2nd, 12th, 4th, 7th and 8th houses in the horoscope of the female, the death of the husband will occur; similar situation in the husband's horoscope causes the death of wife."
The Lagna represents body, the Moon, mind and Venus, sexual relations. Therefore, the houses have to be reckoned with reference to all the three, viz., Lagna, Moon and Venus. The dosha (evil) is considered weak when it exists from Lagna, a little stronger from the Moon and still more powerful from Venus. The second house signifies family; the twelfth represents comforts and pleasures of bed. The fourth rules sukha or happiness. The seventh indicates husband and eighth represents longevity of the wife or husband. Hence the position of Mars in these houses is supposed to produce this peculiar dosha or evil. If Kuja Dosha attains in the horoscopes of both the bride and bridegroom, the dosha gets cancelled. Many good combinations which assure marital happiness and much importance need not be given to Kuja Dosha.
Granting that Kuja Dosha is a factor whose happening should not be ignored, there are antidotes of Hindu astrologers. If Mars is placed in the signs mentioned below corresponding to different houses, there shall be no dosha:
2nd - Gemini and Virgo
12th - Taurus and Libra
4th - Aries and Scorpio
7th - Capricorn and Cancer
8th - Sagittarius and Pisces.
In Aquarius and Leo, Mars doesn’t create any dosha.
The dosha is counter by the conjunction of Mars and Jupiter or Mars and the Moon; or by the presence of Jupiter or Venus in the ascendant.
Mars in 1, 4 or 12 is most troublesome for the partner, because Mars is asserting the 7th house. Mars in 8th is also said to be bad for the partner, but more through relationship karma and not necessarily from one's direct actions or words towards the partner. Mars in the 1st will make a person violent and challenging in general, especially with the partner. Mars in the 4th affects the mind, making one restless and irritable. Mars in the 4th or 12th house makes it hard for one to express that Mars energy, so it turns into frustration and resentment. This can lead to abusive behavior that is more subtle and passive-aggressive in nature. If the 7th house and lord are in good shape otherwise, an ill-placed Mars can be overcome. Also, consider whether Mars is an auspicious planet for the chart. For Cancer or Leo, Mars exposure the 7th house can bring authority to the partner.
